Sri Someshwara Swamy Temple

Halasuru Someshwara Temple is situated in the suburb of Halasuru (also called Ulsoor) in Bangalore. It is the one of the oldest temples in the city, dating back to the Chola Period. Temple is dedicated to the Hindu idol “Lord Shiva”.

History

The Someshwara Temple was built by Kempa Gowda in the 9th Century. This temple is a symbol of the greatness of the Chola kings. According to art historian George Mitchell, the temple underwent major modifications and additions were made during late Vijayanagara dynasty and during the rule of Hiriya Kempe Gowda II.

  • Landmark of the place: Near Ulsoor Police Station. Timing: In Morning: from 6:00 AM To 12:00 PM. In Evening: from 5:30 PM To 09:00 PM. Whereas the campus of the temple remains open from 7 AM to 7 PM.

  • The temple tower shows several wonderfully carved sculptures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. One of the notable sculpture inside the temple is of Ravana lifting Kailash Parvata to please Lord Shiva.
